Bram - Software Development
Introduce yourself
I’m a mostly self-taught software developer who got hooked on coding by writing Minecraft mods during secondary school. That kickstarted my love for programming and led me to pursue it as a career. Outside of work, I’m a big foodie and love trying out new restaurants.
How would you describe your role to someone outside of your field?
I work with the product team to bring new features and improvements to the website. It’s mostly about writing code and solving interesting problems along the way.
How long have you been with Car & Classic, and what drew you to join the team?
I’ve been here for over two years. I liked that it was a smaller company where I could make an impact, and the tech stack was right up my alley.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I really enjoy the autonomy and the fact that I’m involved in projects from the very start. My input is valued, which makes the work feel even more meaningful.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day starts with a team stand-up where we check in on progress. After that, I review anything in the sprint that needs attention and then dive into coding for the rest of the day.
Who do you work closely with, and how does your team support each other?
I work closely with our Product Owner to give technical insights and estimates for projects. Within the dev team, we support each other by collaborating on tasks and sharing knowledge to get things done efficiently.
Since joining Car & Classic, what new skills have you developed or areas you’ve strengthened?
Elasticsearch has been a big one—I’ve had to dive deep into it recently and learned a lot along the way.
Is there something you’ve achieved here that you’re especially proud of?
I’m really proud of delivering our automated translation system. It was a challenging project, but seeing it in action is incredibly rewarding.
What’s been your favourite moment working at Car & Classic?
Definitely karaoke in an Irish pub during a trip to Barcelona—great memories with the team!
How would you describe the Car & Classic culture? How does this resonate with you?
It’s informal and easygoing—everyone’s approachable, and there’s no rigid hierarchy. That really suits me because it makes collaboration so much simpler and more enjoyable.
What car or bike on Car & Classic would you love to drive?
The Volvo V60 T6 Polestar, 2015.5 generation. It’s such a cool car and definitely on my wishlist!
How would you describe Car & Classic in just three words?
Passionate, collaborative, pragmatic.
What surprised you the most about your team or the work environment when you first joined?
This was my first time working professionally with Laravel, and I was blown away by how much code there was. It’s been an exciting challenge to get familiar with it.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone considering a role like yours?
Our codebase is pretty big, but it’s so rewarding to dig into it and really understand how everything works. Take your time and enjoy the process.
