We’re looking for a writer with a deep understanding of classic and specialist vehicles, who can learn about unfamiliar topics quickly and communicate them in an enthusiastic and informed way.

About the role
We’re looking for part-time writers (freelance) to write auction listings for our rapidly growing marketplace. Our Car & Classic listing writers are responsible for translating a basic set of information about cars, vans, bikes, trucks and anything else on two or four wheels into engaging, informative and concise listings.
As a listings writer at Car & Classic, you will have the ability to turn basic information into a captivating listing that is technically correct and tells the story of a car in a way that makes it irresistible to bidders.
You’ll need good organisational skills and the ability to identify gaps in copy and then interview owners directly to create the fullest description possible. You’ll also need to fact-check and ensure everything is accurate ahead of publication.
- Writing listings from questionnaire responses submitted by the vehicle owners
- Fact-checking claims made about the vehicle and ensuring the accuracy of information
- Ability to write consistently to a word limit within the tone of voice and style guidelines
- Uploading work to our bespoke CMS
The skills, attributes and experience you must have:
- 🚗 A deep understanding of classic & specialist vehicles: You've probably spent way too much time on our site already.
- ✍️ Proven automotive writing chops: You’ve probably written for magazines, blogs, or auction listings. Whatever the format, you know how to make metal come alive on the page.
- 🧠 The ability to distil complexity into clarity: You can take scattered information, alongside technical detail and turn it into something compelling and crystal clear.
- 🔍 A forensic eye for detail: Typos? Never heard of them.
- 📞 Confidence talking to customers: Whether it’s a private seller with a barn find or a dealer with a showroom full of stock — you’re at ease speaking to all kinds of enthusiasts.
- ⏱ A proven track record of meeting deadlines: Our auction timelines are tight, you’ll need to deliver high-quality work, fast.
